Dermatopathology is specialist pathology that requires further training. A large share of general surgical pathologists’ biopsies involve skin specimens. Correctly diagnosing these situations requires a thorough awareness of the wide range of possible diagnoses, proficiency in spotting tiny histologic signs, and skill in synthesizing clinical evidence. Pathologists without dermatopathology training may struggle to diagnose these specimens, especially for rare disorders. In our precision medicine era, pathology reports often require supplementary molecular testing. Scientific literature frequently reports molecular discoveries with diagnostic, prognostic, and management potential. However, professional pathologists may struggle to extract essential information for diagnosis and patient management. USCAP 2019 Annual Meeting Long Course aims to teach the audience about common dermatopathologic lesions, with a focus on those that are difficult to diagnose or have major clinical implications. The course addresses common dermatopathology issues practically. The audience will be given a detailed overview of each entity, auxiliary tests, and guidance to avoid misdiagnosis.
